The course is designed for Recreational Boaters in Canada to operate a marine VHF radio installation on board recreational vessels and small commercial vessels up to 15 gross tonnes (GT)/ approx 12 m (39 ft) within 25 nm from shore.
The course also includes discussions on Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), Digital Select Calling (DSC) and Personal Locator Beacons(PLBS)

The course is designed for radio operators on compulsory fitted small commerical vessels in Canada to be able to operate a marine VHF radio installation on small commercial vessels within 25 - 40 nm from shore (SEA Area A1).
The course also includes discussions on Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), Digital Select Calling (DSC) and Personal Locator Beacons(PLBS)
